We returned from Ireland a couple of weeks ago. Since people often post questions about budget and costs, I thought I'd share this mini-survey of the price of a pint of Guiness. (Amounts are in Euros.)
As common sense would suggest, the location of the keg has an effect on the price
Turk's Head Bar, Temple Bar: 4.80 Patriot's Inn, Kilmainham, Dublin: 4.10 Crotty's Pub, Kilrush, County Clare: 3.80 I enjoyed a pint in more locations than this, but don't have receipts for everywhere. I'm pretty sure that drink at Turk's Head was the most expensive. |

That's interesting, we were just talking about this the other day!
It sure does vary a LOT. In Malahide last week (I don't know the name of the pub) it was €11.40 for a pint of Guinness and a pint of Smithwicks, presumably they are much the same price as each other so that would be €5.70 for a pint of Guinness ![]()
It came as something of a shock to my friend who was buying and, more accustomed to Kilkenny prices, had plonked a €10 note down assuming he was covered. There was a Neil Young concert on locally that day, so maybe the prices were hiked up to take advantage of the crowds, I don't know, but it certainly was an expensive couple of pints. __________________ Katherine (DoChara)
