Hello!
I´m planning a trip to Ireland for ten days in the middle of august with a friend. Among other activities we would like to rent a canoe somewhere on our tour which will probably lead from  Dublin (maybe to Kilkenny) to Galway trough the Connemara area to Clifden and then up to Westport and Sligo. Most of the time we will be travelling without a car so I´d like to know if there is a possibility to rent a canoe close to any of the places above? We´re far from being professionals so we are looking for a relaxing one-day-tour
Any recommendation would be great! Thank you!

You are passing through Galway going to Westport, so the perfect place to get in some canoeing is at Delphi Adventure Centre, which is on Kilary Harbour and offers both Kayaking and Canadian Canoeing along with a host of other adventure type activities.

The website is slightly confusing, in that it seems to suggest that you have to stay there and take part in some sort of week long course, but you don't, you can just book for a day or a half day. It's a fantastic place in a wonderful location and has excellent staff - my son goes to their summer camp every year and it's definitely the highlight of his year. Granted he is only 10, but it works its magic for adults too!

Getting there will be a bit tricky without a car however - it's very remote - but the Galway-Westport bus does pass reasonably close by and they may be able to pick you up.

The Killary Adventure Centre is another place close by which offers kayaking, but not any other type of canoeing.

Thank you so much for your answer! It´s good to know that the Delphi Adventure Centre doesn´t only offer the long courses but that you can rent canoes for a day or half a day, too. I think we´ll see if and how we can get there when we arrived in Ireland but I would really like to share the excitement your son feels there

We are thinking about visiting Kilkenny (apparently not for canoeing ). I already read through the information in this site but do you have any special advice what to do or visit there?

Thanks again!
