Hi everyone!!
We're planning to spend a few days in Ireland in about one week (our first time there) and I think I need some advice. We don't have much time (only 5 days ), but we'll try to make the most of it!! Here are some of the things we would like to do, I'll appreciate all opinions!! Day 1 (Mon.) We'll be arriving at Dublin at 9:45 am. Visit Dublin. Day 2 (Tues.) Dublin. (Too long, maybe??) Days 3-5 (Wed.-Fri.) On Wednesday we'll take a train to Galway and there we're going to rent a car. We would like to see the Connemara area from there: Oughterard (Lough Corrib), Roundstone, Clifden, Killary harbour. Is it possible to do this in one day?? Probably not! Or are wee skipping something really nice (OK, we KNOW we are skipping LOTS of things, but...) We would also like to visit the Burren area (I have checked your ONE DAY BURREN TOUR We don't mind to linger, I mean we'd like to enjoy the landscape and we love small picturesque towns (Kinvarra, Ballyvaughan, Lisdoonvarna are on our list - Any other you would recommend) We're due back in Dublin on Friday night, as our plane leaves early on Sat. morning. I'm going through my Rough Guide, but sometimes I feel it's too much, but sometimes I think it's too little!! Can you believe it??I hope this doesn't sound too chaotic and that you can help me a little bit. Thank you so so much!! nunus |

The West is a beautiful part of Ireland, and the Connemara is one of my favourite regions. You can definitely do a good tour of the area in a day. In fact, the Galway.net page has tour suggestions all mapped out. Try this link...
http://www.galway.net/galwayguide/visit/connemara/drives/ Try to get down to Carraroe, in the Gaeltacht region, near Rossaveal where the ferries leave for the Aran Islands. If you like shells, Carraroe has the Coral Beach (or Coral Strand) where you can find loads of pretty, colourful little shells. It's a nice natural souvenier to bring back from your trip. :-) I'll be in Ireland in a couple of weeks with some friends, and will be taking them there. Also, if you pass through Recess on your drive, stop in at Joyce's, a nice little shop in the middle of nowhere that has lovely crafts and things for sale...and be sure to look at the monument across the street that is dedicated to nothing...LOL! Have a great trip! |

nunus,
I would spend all three of your days in/around the Galway area. Kinvara or Ballyvaughan are prefect OR you could spend your nights outside of Galway in Connemara nearer Satlhill or, my favorite, Spiddal. I would spend 2 days exploring Connemara and one the Burren and area. If you go to Do Chara's Tours page you can check out her One Day Connemara, One Day Burren and Galway Walking Tours. Doing these in your three days is plenty to keep you busy. Remember, the weather will have a huge say in how far you get and what all you can actually see. Safe travels, Wendy |
