I'll be in Ireland in a couple of weeks, traveling with two friends who have never been there before. We'll be driving down from the Connemara, through Clare on the way to Dingle, and will probably only have time to visit one area of cliffs. I can't decide whether we should go to the Cliffs of Moher (which I have been to before), and although it's dramatic, it's also very touristy and built up, or...take them down to the cliffs at Loop Head (where I haven't been yet) and do the drive around the peninsula. From the pics that I've seen, and from what I've read, Loop Head is very beautiful, and has some interesting formations. My friends have heard of the Cliffs of Moher, and they want to see some dramatic coastline, but have left it up to me to decide.
Any opinions out there from people who have been to the Loop and Moher? Thanks! |

denglot,
If you time your drive right (and the weather is with you) you might be able to fit in both the Cliffs and Loop Head. If I had to chose however, IMO the Cliffs are a Must for any first timer to Ireland. They are on your way and make for a good place to stop and stretch your legs a bit after the drive down from Connemara. You will be exploring Dingle for a day (or more?) so you all will see some amazing scenery there. Loop Head is beautiful but I think it is more of a place to take your time discovering, not just an area to spend an hour on your way to some place else. Safe travels, Wendy |

The more I think about it, the more I agree with you. We're going to do the Dingle drive, so they will see dramatic scenery there as well. It will be nice for my friends to see the Cliffs of Moher, and I can get back to Loop Head on my next trip over! Thanks for your input! |
