River Nore or River Styx?
Someone in their wisdom has decided that it's a nice idea to float flower bedecked barges on the River Nore in Kilkenny, one on either side of John's Bridge in the centre of town.
They first did it last year when Kilkenny was an entrant in the Entente Floral competition, so I assumed it was a one off. Frankly I thought it looked a bit tacky, not greatly helped by the prominent and ugly ad for the sponsor at the back.
But they are back this year, only it's much, much worse.
Anyone happening to glance down at the river as they cross the bridge would have to assume that some arcane funeral ritual was underway - it really does look like there is a coffin floating off to 'another place'.

Its a coffin!!! Why would they do this?? Its a nice idea if it wasn't so
square - something kind of island shaped if you know what i mean, with
wilder more natural looking planting than this could look very nice. Last
years one looks like a flower bed hopped over the wall from the castle
garden.
