Message in a Bottle
This is kind of exciting!
Last January while on holiday in West Palm Beach in Florida my then 6 (now 7) year old, with the aid of the good friend with whom we were staying, carefully prepared a message and put it in a bottle.
Launching the bottle proved somewhat problematic, since we were not allowed to chuck it into the sea from a beach - glass, public safety and all that - and were leaving too soon to have time to get further off shore to do it. So our friend took it out in a boat after we left, a good distance from the shore, and did the chucking-in for us.
Occasionally since we wondered about the bottle, but decided it had hit the rocks somewhere and smashed. Until last night when an email arrived to say it had been found washed ashore at Virginia Beach. The finder kindly photographed it for us and here it is in all its barnacled glory!!
He is going to put it back into the sea to continue its journey - stand by for the next installment in this thilling tale!

If I remember correctly, he wrote down his age, that he lived in Ireland and included an email address. Everyone involved, including the captain who took me out in his boat to toss the bottle in the Gulf Stream off the coast of South Florida, is thrilled! We all eagerly await the next dry landing of Barnacle Bottle!
