Ireland is the winner at Croke Park
Yesterday's international rugby match between Ireland and France may have ended in a last minute victory on the pitch for the French, but Ireland was definitely the winner.
It is difficult for anyone who didn't grow up in Ireland to grasp the strangeness and importance of a rugby game taking place on the hallowed ground of the magnificent GAA headquarters. For years members of the GAA were under threat of expulsion for even attending, not to mind playing, 'foreign' games like rugby or soccer. The very idea of teams from those codes running on to a GAA pitch was unimaginable.
The score may have been 20-17 to France, a last minute try stealing a win from under Irish noses, but there is no doubt at all that the day was a winning one for Ireland.
Now we just need to beat the English there in 2 weeks time, for real.
