Great Idea or Pie in the Sky?
A cable car high over the River Liffey connecting Hueston Station and the Docklands, giving tourists panoramic views over the whole city. That's the proposal that a private consortium have submitted for planning approval.

They are apparantly planning to call it 'Suas', which means 'up' and of course rhymes with Luas, the name of the existing Dublin tram system, although its purpose isn't transport - it's aimed squarely at tourists. The plan is to charge about €15 for a 20 minute one-way journey.
What do you think? Would you take a trip?

This is a joke, right? If it wasn't for all the crap they have allowed to
be built along the quays already I'd have more faith that the planners
would laugh this out of the room. Poor old Dublin, being ruined for a quick
buck.

Part of me sort of likes the notion of floating along over the liffey, part
of me is appalled at the ugliness of it. I think the second part is
winning. It must move slow if the journey would last 20 mins. Gotta like
'suas' though.:)

Mmmm... I think it would be a good idea, but, I don't like the cables,
unless they light them up in a clever artistic way, the towers also look
ugly, like something out of 'war of the worlds'. I wonder who the proposing
developers are? Anyone know?, maybe some constructive comments from heart
felt Dubliners could get something similiar going without, as Jay says,
destroying our much loved Quays for a few shillings...

It looks like something from War of the Worlds, like a giant robotic snake
St. Patrick forgot to chase out of the country.
Thankfully they have been denied planning permission. I couldn't stand
looking at the monstrosity on a daily basis.

Whooah! Steve! I just saw your 'war of the worlds' comment, great minds
think alike...

I think it's a great idea. It'd really make Dublin stand out more from a
tourist's point of view. Makes the city seem much more modern.
