Loughcrew Opera
Loughcew House, Oldcastle, Co Meath
This is really quite a unique event, an opera performed in the beautiful gardens of Loughcrew House, it is not just about the music but also the wonderful surroundings and the very special atmosphere.
This event has not been confirmed for 2012, and dates are extremely provisional. Updates as they become available.
A long interval allows plenty of time to enjoy an ‘Opera Lover’s Buffet’ (menu sounds yum!) in the Pavillion Cafe or a picnic in the garden.
The opera itself takes place in a splendidly decorated marquee, and in 2011 the festival presented ‘Die Fledermaus’. The audience were invited to enter the spirit of the event by dressing in period costume, which meant dressing in 1934 rural Ireland sytle – the period in which the opera was set.
I can tell you though that people in 1930s Ireland did not generally dress like the lovely lady on the festival poster! You’d be better getting up to your granny’s attic and seeing what’s there.
Gate open at 4pm , so go along early and give yourself time to explore the lovely gardens.
