Dingle Food & Wine Festival

There isn’t really any need to have an excuse to visit Dingle, but if you are looking for one then going to this festival is the perfect reason to get away for a great weekend of all round yumminess.

Dingle has a growing reputation in foodie circles and has seen some great restaruants and food shops establish themselves in recent years and as part of the festival both local and national chefs will give cookery demonstrations, concentrating on making the best of great Irish ingredients.

A range of workshops cover a wide range of topics including rearing and curing your own backyard pig, keeping bees, foraging for wild food and chocolate making.

Tasting menus wll be available in all local restaurants on Friday and Saturday nights and throughout the weekend the Taste Trail takes in over 55 outlets, with tickets available to allow festival goers to sample local cuisine and the wares of artisan producers in locations that vary from pubs and galleries to shops and restaurants.

‘A Night with the Penguins’ is a pop-up restaurant which for one night only will serve a lavish 5 course meal in Dingle Aquarium, based naturally around local seafood. This is so popular that a draw will take place for tickets – so get your name in the hat early!

There will be lots of entertainment laid on, with opening and closing parties, live music on the streets and in local pubs and for those who want to work off some of the gourmet excess a cycle around beautiful Slea Head. A food and wine market running all weekend will allow you to stock up on goodies to take home.

As part of the festival the winners of the annual Blas na hÉireann (Taste of Ireland) National Irish Food Awards, will be announced. These awards celebrate the best of Irish produce, and are highly prized and hotly contested.
