Centered around Sligo town this weekend of singing workshops, informal singing sessions, audio and video presentations, scholarly talks and a field trip is dedicated to the art of traditional singing, which is thankfully alive and well in Sligo and surrounding areas.
This is a low key event, very much for the enthusiast but also of interest to those who would like to learn more about traditional of singing. Among the styles which have a place here is ‘lilting’, a style of singing which is not very widely known and little heard.
In addition to the ever popular singing workshops there will be storytelling, local tours, walks and plenty of music sessions to enjoy.
Events are centred around the Yeat’s Country Hotel in Rosses Point, which is on the coast and has plenty of good beaches and great walks close by.
This festival has been renamed in honour of Frank Finn, one of the founding members of the organising group and a great singer and composer of songs, who died tragically in 2011.
Special Guests in 2017 will include Elle Marie O’Dwyer and Caitríona Ní Cheannabháin.
