Tradfest Cork
Posted in: Traditional Music | What's On in Ireland
This annual event run by the Traditional Music Society at University College Cork is a low scale, friendly one which attracts a very talented bunch of musicians to Ireland’s second city real capital.
There are sessions and concerts every day of the festival, in the evening and at lunchtime. Most sessions take place in An Spailpín Fanac, a wonderful old pub in Cork city centre. Even when there are no official events on you are likely to find casual gatherings of musicians playing there during the week.
Sessions are lively – take a look at this wonderful performance by Frankie Gavin, Damien Mullane and Hibernian Rhapsody last year:
Highlights in 2010 include Friday’s lunchtime concert in the Aula Max, which features Iarla O’Lionard and Steve Cooney, and the variety concert in the O’Riada Hall on Thursday night.
The annual lecture is given this year by Séamus DeBarra who will speak about Aloys Fleischmann and his influence on Irish music.
