It is not that difficult for couple not resident in Ireland to have their wedding here, provided they are planning to get married in a church.
Weddings in a registry office or other location are possible also, but a little more complex to arrange from abroad because there will be a residency requirement.

Although homosexuality was not decriminalised in Ireland until 1993, things have changed rapidly since and there is an active and lively gay scene in most cities and some larger towns.
Outside of urban centres things are still a little bleak on the social front, though intolerance is rare.
