Also known as Ceann Sibéal, this course is often unjustly overlooked in favour of better known courses in the area. It's a shame because this is a terrific course, preserving and incorporating the natural terrain to provide a testing links experience.
A 6,696 yards par 72 traditional links, the course was designed by Eddie Hackett who was a true links expert who also designed the famous Waterville links, with later changes by Christy O'Connor. The course is flatter than most links in this area, though far from level, and the natural terrain was little interfered with when it was built and the designers showed an admirably light touch in that regard.
While this course may lack the drama of its more famous relative, it has a subtle charm and can easily catch out those who are fooled by its apparant ease. Two holes stand out, the 197 yard uphill par three 10th hole which is played to a hidden green and the par 4 15th where an unkind wind can make the stream to the right, which must be cleared, and difficult obstacle.
The club is in the heart of the Irish speaking Gealtacht and everything is in Irish - including the score card - but you will figure it out! The surroundings are strangly mystical, very peaceful when the wind is calm and with a real away from the world feel. There are excellent clubhouse facilities. Do not miss this gem.
