Donegal is not the easiest place in Ireland to get to, but is among the most beautiful parts of the country and there is no better way to explore it than on horseback. On the shores of lovely Sheephaven Bay, most of the riding here is geared towards the more experienced rider, with good, fit and well schooled horses, though beginners are catered for on some of the shorter treks.
There are three types of longer trail rides available: a full week of daily trails in and around the area of the centre, while based in the adjoining hotel; a 5 day post-to-post ride and for those with less time a three day ride.
Shorter treks ranging in length from an hour to a half-day are also available. An interesting two hour trek along an old famine road and a ride on Tramore beach - almost unreachable except by horseback - are highlights, with gentle walks on the strand on unshakeable horses available for absolute beginners.
All riding here will take you into parts of the beautiful Donegal countryside not easily accessible to those with only two legs as well as along the long sandy and often deserted beaches in the area.
The centre is located beside Arnold's Hotel, a small and friendly establishment with good rooms. For those uninterested in the equestrian side of things there are also painting, photography and golf breaks available, or these can be combined with a riding holiday.
