Reviews & Comments
Located at the gates of University College Cork, this is Ireland's newest gallery and includes display spaces, lecture facilities, a really superb riverside restaurant and a gallery shop. There is a good and growing permanent collection of contemporary Irish art as well as a varied programme of exhibitions, loosely built on a core theme of the unique role of visual media in communicating knowledge.
Interns are available to provide guided tours.
The gallery has become a centre of Cork cultural life, with regular lunch time and evening lectures, guided tours, panel discussions and courses for both adults and children - it is in fact a particularly child friendly gallery and kids over about the age of 8 will enjoy it enormously.
The Gallery Building
The award winning building is a as much worth visiting as the art inside. It was designed to be in sympathy with the surrounding mature trees and the riverbank and most of the gallery is raised on stilts which make it seem at time to float over the river. The dramatic entrance is approached over a footbridge and gives a real sense of entering a special place.
A must see for anyone visiting Ireland's 'real' capital!

With several museums and galleries I have visited both in Asia and Europe,
this gallery is really the finest of the galleries I visited. I like the
architecture and the interiors.Tthe shows are really the best and at the
same time the curator is nice. I always visit the place to update with the
latest news in the world of arts.
