Sometimes it is nice to divert from the typical tourist trail and take in a local club where not many visitors play. This is a course well worth making such a diversion for.
Designed by Christy O'Connor, it is a championship standard course completed in 1996, beautifully maintained and with excellent facilities.
The course has something to challenge golfers of all levels, its par 3 holes are particularly enjoyable, notably the 13th (unlucky for many!) where the front of the green is guarded by a chain of hungry bunkers. On the long 3rd the green is surrounded by hazards, with water on three sides and bunkers on the fourth. The very next hole has water hard to the left for more than half its length and it requires some very accurate hitting to keep your ball dry.
Gort is a small and a very friendly club with a great welcome for visitors - beware the insidious charms of the very convivial 19th!
Green Fees: €25-30 (spectacular value!)
