Less well known than other Kerry courses, this is an exceptionally well kept course in majestic surroundings. Designed by Eddie Hackett, who is better known for his links courses but proves his versatility here, the course is relatively new, it opened in 1998, but has already become a favourite with many visiting golfers.

It has its critics too, with some golfers finding the long walk with its many uphill stretches more effort than it is worth and others feeling that its American style making it missable in an area where there is so much traditional links golf to be had - though others like the contrast after a few days at the links.

The course is testing, with blind shots required on several holes including the very long 11th where luck will have as much a part to play as skill. Luck will have little part to play elsewhere, with accuate hitting richly rewarded and at the par 4 6th any sloppy shots from the elevated tee to a narrow fairway with water on both sides will be severely punished. Actually one of the most tricky things here is keeping your attention on the game, so magnificent is the view.

The back tees provide a stiff professional challange but the course has something to satisfy every level of golfer.

Green Fees: €45 - €80

This really is a hell of a walk, so unless you are prepared for that hire a cart or a moterised trolley at the clubhouse, call ahead at peak times to be sure there is one available.
