Ennis Bookclub FestivalWith the rise in populatity of book clubs in Ireland it is no surprise that this festival, first held in 2007, was an instant hit. The programme is broad and eclectic, including not just fiction but also poetry, food, travel and memoir writing.

The weekend is designed firmly around the reader, with readings, discussions, workshops and tours of the local area on offer. Among the authors who will be in attendance in 2008 are Joanne Harris, writer of the noval Chocolat, Dermot Bolger, Roddy Doyle, Thomas Lynch, Hugo Hamilton and Nuala O Faolain. Journalist and commentator Fintan O'Toole is also scheduled to appear while chef and food writer Neven Maguire is bound to draw a good crowd.

Anyone involved in organising or considering starting a book club will find plenty of help and guidance, with sessions on how to organise a club, and advice on reading lists.

However the great joy of this weekend is not just in the organised events, but in the opportunity for those who love books to meet with, socialise and talk to those with similar interests.
