Dublin Handel FestivalThis annual festival celebrates the music of Handel and his connections to Dublin, where his famous oratorio "The Messiah" was first performed.

The opening event - Messiah on the Street - is a real spectacular, performed by Our Lady’s Choral Society and the National Sinfonia on the streets of Temple Bar, close to the location of the original performance. A more formal Messiah with the Christ Church Cathedral Choir and the Orchestra of St Cecilia will take place in the wonderful and fitting surroundings of Christ Church Cathedral.

In addition to these two major events there are several other performances, workshops, childrens events, tours and other activities, most of which are free.

The festival is centered around the Temple Bar area in central Dublin, so it is easy to spend just a little time sampling it if you happen to be in Dublin at this time. If you are, we highly recommend that you try to see at least one of the Messiah performances.
