Spraoi Festival
The Spraoi [say spree] Festival in Waterford is all about live street performance and world music. Every part of the city is involved and the whole place becomes a huge street party, with a new spectacle around every corner.
It's enormous fun, with Irish performers joined by others from Brazil, Australia, America, Cuba, Canada, Romania, Spain, France, Belgium, and Britain. Most events are free, there are loads that kids will love and it will put a smile on even the most jaded tourist's face.
Among the highlights in 2008 are the UK based Gandinis, a company of Jugglers who have taken the art to new levels, and Flying Buttresses, an enchanting, interactive puppetry walkabout who stage a series of small, static shows which draw in those who gather to watch.
Almost all events at Sproai are free of charge, with most of the action taking place along the Quayside in the centre of the city. Definitely not to be missed, especially if you are traveling with children who will be totally enthralled.
