An annual theatre and drama event held in Rathdrum, Co Wicklow, which in 2008 has the theme "Irish Theatre and the World Stage".

There will be lectures from leading theatre experts on a variety of Irish dramatists including Brian Friel, Stewart Parker, Marina Carr, Conor McPherson and, of course, JM Synge himself.

Award-winning writer Sebastian Barry, author of The Steward of Christendom, The Pride of Parnell Street and A Long Long Way will be there as will Bisi Adigun, who will discuss the updated version of The Playboy of the Western World which he and Roddy Doyle wrote for the production at the Abbey Theatre in 2007.

A lively social programme runs alongside the daily events and this year includes a visit to the Abbey Theatre and a tour of Synge Country in County Wicklow.

This is at the heart quite an academic event, but there is great life in Rathdrum throughout the week with lots of traditional music in the pubs, so worth a visit for anyone.
