Cat Laughs Comedy Festival
Each Year Irish comedians are joined by a huge international line-up in what has become one of the most popular and well attended festivals in Ireland. Those appearing in 2008 will include Tommy Teirnan, Ardal O'Hanlon, Rich Hall, Jason Byrne, Neil Delamere, Dom Irrera and many more.
2008 will see the debut performance at the festival by British comedy master, Russell Howard well known for his appearances on ‘Mock The Week’ and ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’.
‘The Dark Show’ is a new event to the festival this year and will give voice to material that every comedian comes up with from time to time and thinks ‘That’s really funny, but there’s no way I could say that on stage’.
Each year the unique Cat Laughs International Improv is a big draw, as is the Comedy Cats, a show which includes the best comedians playing the Irish comedy circuit.
Among the other highlights for 2008 will be a showing of the 1928 movie, Buster Keaton's Steamboat Bill jr, with a live musical accompaniment by Neil Brand. The popular Ireland vs the Rest of the World comic's soccer match returns, held on Sunday afternoon to test those who have survived the festival's revelries sufficiently well to be able to break into a run.
This has grown into one of Europes best comedy festivals - the fact that no shows are recorded and there are no competitions means the performers are relaxed, there for the fun and usually on top form.
There are lots of other events in town during the festival but with comedy shows from lunchtime to after midnight spread over more than a dozen venues you may not get to see much of them.
