Mary from Dungloe Festival
A big event in Donegal, during which a new title-holder for the Mary from Dungloe crown is chosen from hopefuls from all over the world.
The title is owed to the words of a famous ballad, "...till the day I die I'll ne'er deny my Mary from Dungloe" and the aim is to choose a girl as true, faithful and lovely as that Mary. But it's not a tacky beauty pageant, oh no siree!
Don't be too surprised if local favourite son, Danial O'Donnell puts in an appearance. There will be lots of country music on offer, plus sporting events, novelty events such as car-reversing, festival bingo (really), marching bands and lots of kids events.
It a very casual and easy-going event with a family feel to it and people return to it year after year, so they must be doing something right!
