Boyle ArtsClassical music, jazz, traditional and world music feature along with drama, poetry, literature and storytelling, but this festival is best known for its visual arts programme, which combines exhibitions by well established names in addition to up and coming artists.

A very popular Poetry Competion which attracts strong entries returns in 2008, and other events include a major art exhibition of works by contemporary Irish Artists, Classical and Traditional Music, Poetry, Drama, Lectures and Childrens events.

Works by more than 100 artists will be on display, include Basil Blackstaff, John Shinners and Felim Egan. Comedian Kevin McAleer will be there, writers attending include John Banville and Bernard McLaverty while a varied and eclectic music programme includes Phil Coulter, Regina Nathan and No Crows.

There is always a strong children's programme, which this year includes the Miriam Lambert Puppet Theatre and an outdoor circus production on the final day.  You just have to hope the weather stays fine for that, and for the planned Gourmet Picnic in Lough Key Forest Park the same day.

While in town take time to vist King House, where some of the growing and impressive collection of paintings which make up the Boyle Civic Collection are on view.
