Belfast Children's Festival
Note: Details below refer to the previous event. Updated information for this year will be published here as soon as it becomes available.
This arts event is firmly aimed at the under 12s and a series of imaginative and innovative events run both in and out of school hours, with school and family groups equally well catered for.
There is music and dance, puppetry, story-telling and theatre, with both local and international artist performing and running many workshops where the kids can get stuck in and become involved - and they do!
Children must be accompanied to all events. Details for 2009 are not yet finalised.
The 2008 programme featured artists from all over Europe alongside some of the best of Northern Irish talent, and for the first time expanded to include a number of events in Lisburn. Among the highlights were German show The Queen of Colours, a breath-taking event which cleverly combined live music, live painting, shadow puppetry, video projection and storytelling in a show which entralled those aged from 4 up to, well, all ages!
Each day there was hourly story reading at the Belfast Waterfront and the Old Museum Arts Centre, where parents enjoyed a cup of tea while the children listened to readings of some of the best fiction available.
For anyone with kids who is in Belfast at this time, this great festival is an absolute must.
