The Culchie Festival
A "culchie" is a country dweller and proud of it, though those who live in cities might, just might, use the term as one of abuse!
This festival celebrates all things culchie, with competitions in everything from wellie-throwing and hay-tossing to low-loader driving!
The Great Honda Step-Thru Run, a rally of bikes which come from far and wide, will take place on the 26th. For those unfamiliar with them, the Honda Step-Thru, often somewhat inaccurately known as the Honda 50, is, or at least was in the past, the low-powered transport of choice for the true culchie. Nowadays however any self respecting culchie is more likely to be found behind the wheel of a powerful 4x4.
The event culminates in the selection of the "Culchie of the Year", a much sought after title. All great fun, the festival takes place this year in Kilinalick, Co Cavan., home of 2007 Culchie King Paudie Clinton.
