Shannon International Music Festival
With eleven concerts over five days featuring an impressive line-up of both Irish and International artists, Limerick has a feast for classical music lovers visiting Ireland in July.
Highlights include "Wild and Eclectic", with piano virtuoso Joanna McGregor directing the Irish Chamber Orchestra; Joanna MacGregor will also perform Messiaen’s masterpiece - Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus - at St Mary's Cathedral in a late night concert.
"Return of the Dolphin", sees Micheál Ó Suilleabháin revisit his CD The Dolphin’s Way, and its exploration of trad/classical cross-over styles.
The festival comes to a close with Sian Williams conducting the Irish Chamber Orchestra in a light hearted that includes Prokoviev’s classic Peter and the Wolf narrated by Alan Stanford, an event which will be followed by a sumptuous supper with a side dish of musical surprises!
For visitors to Ireland who love classical music, combining concerts by night in Limerick with touring the lovely Shannon region by day would make a most unforgettable vacation.
