Charles Stewart ParnellCharles Stewart ParnellWith many of its events taking place in Avondale, the ancestral home of Charles Stewart Parnell, this summer school has a strong sense of the man and his ideas pervading it's events.

Parnell was an innovator and an instigator of change, and this is reflected in the theme chosen  this year "Continutiy and Change in Irish Culture". There will be lectures, workshops and discussions on topics such as women and gender equality, education, the labour movement, theatre, art, and the national question.

Speakers and events for 2008 have yet to be finalised.

The keynote speaker in 2007 was academic Roy Foster and others included Susannah Riordan of UCD who along with Paul Delaney of TCD explored the topic of Cultural Diversity, a very live issue in Ireland to-day.

There is an active social side to the school and it all takes place amid the lovely countryside of Co Wicklow, so there are no shortage of touring options in the locality.
