Yeats Summer SchoolOrganised by the Sligo Yeats Society, this very popular school commemorates the life and work of W.B. Yeats in  a series of workshops, lectures, seminars and readings. Attended by an eclectic group comprising academics and students but also those who simply have a deep love of  poetry, particularly that of Yeats.

The topics stick pretty closely to the life and work of the man and to aspects of life in Ireland and elsewhere that influenced his work.

Among the highlights in a very packed programme for 2008 are a lecture "Every paddler's heritage: Yeats and modern poetry" by Patrick Crotty of the University of Aberdeen and a duo of Lecture about Yeats in places other than Sligo - "Yeats and London" with Tim Webb and "Yeats, Coole and Ballylee" by Jonathan Allison of the University of Kentucky.

Sligo puts on a good show for the duration of the Summer School, with lots of music and other entertainment available around the town. There will also be plenty of time to explore the dramatic scenery of Co Sligo, so beloved by Yeats.
