Immrama is an old Irish word meaning journey, a fitting name for this festival of travel writing which has been held in the beautiful Waterford town of Lismore since 2003.

The following details refer to the 2008 festival.

Writers attending this year include photographer and writer Nick Danziger, Chinese born author of the bestselling "Wild Swans" Jung Chang with her husband and co-author Jon Halliday and Nick Middleton whose vivid writing about some of the World's least hospitable places has won a wide following.

The programme revolves around a series of readings, workshops and question and answer sessions. A highlight is the presentation of the The Molly Keane Memorial Creative Writing Award.

There is a healthy festival fringe, with music and other events in local venues and children are not forgotten, with storytelling sessions and a 'Wobbley Circus' in the Milennium Park.

You never really need an excuse for visiting Lismore, it's a pleasure at any time, but if you are looking for one this is it!
