The Lough Corrib Cycle
Note: Details below refer to the previous event. Updated information for this year will be published here as soon as it becomes available.
This very popular annual cycle around Lough Corrib is a fun event for all the family - and if it's a nice day you will be cycling along one of the lovliest routs anywhere. There is an option of a 29 mile route, or for those of a hardier disposition or seeking a real challenge, a much longer 75 mile one.
The event is run in aid of Croí [means 'heart', pronounced 'kree'], an organisation which raises money to support and develop a range of services for people with heart disease living in the West of Ireland. It's a sponsored event, with those taking part required to raise a minimum of €100.
It is always a terrific day out, with a very friendly bunch of people of all ages and various fitness levels taking part. Refreshments are provided along the route and the day finishes up with a reception for the cyclists.
Taking part in the Corrib Cycle would be a fantastic way of getting to know other cyclists during your visit to Ireland and really getting out into the countryside, while at the same time leaving behind the gift of a contribution to a very good cause. It should with some advance notice be possible to rent a bike locally if you are not actually on a cycling holiday.
