Spirit of Voice Festival 2008
A relative newcomer to the packed Galway festival calendar, Spirit of the Voice took place first in 2004 and has since grown into an established and popular cultural celebration of song and spoken word.
The festival covers a wide range of styles, with a huge number of performance of sean nós, rap, choirs, gospel, soul, slam, poetry, overtone, opera and storytelling taking place at many venues throughout the city.
The festival is also a celebration of the growing diversity of culture within Ireland, with Asian, African, South American, Eastern European, Canadian and Caribbean Irish performers will take part.
There are also workshops in various voice disciplines and a strong children's programme, particularly in story telling, is a core part of the festival.
As always Galway rises to the occasion and the streets will be alive with activity for the duration of the festival.
