DOD Festival
Originally known as the Day of Darkness, this is Ireland's only heavy metal festival and takes place in the unlikely location of an isolated rural pub near the small village of Ballylinen in Co Laois.
The aim of the festival - apart from providing days of entertainment for Ireland's often neglected metalheads - is to give Irish metal bands a chance to share a stage with bigger international acts.
The line up in 2008 includes Viking Death Metel legends Unleased, Swedish bands Watain and Nifelheim, Italian cult outfit DoomSword, Thin Lizzy insprired Celtic Sword and young Northern Ireland metal act Darkest Era along with Stand Up Guy, Old Season, Thy Sinister Bloom, Mourning Beloveth, Doomsword and many more.
Events get underway at 5pm Friday and 2.15 pm on Saturday and run into the small hours of the morning. Bring plenty of stamina.
There is camping available on site.
