Sneem Family Fun Festival
It's honestly hard to know where to begin with this one, so much is going on in the Kerry village of Sneem over the weekend, certainly there is something here for every member of the family to enjoy.
From abseiling to yoga, circus workshops to basket making, creative grafetti to mural making, dinghi sailing to sheaf tossing - it's all there and a lot more besides. There's an animal roadshoe and a family table quiz, a ceili and a rock music battle of the bands, fancy dress, puppet shows, bouncy castles, bungee jumping. Whew!
A new event this year is the first ever National Wife Carrying Championships, with winning couples will be nominated for entry to the Wife Carrying World Championships to be held next summer at Sonkajärvi in Finland. The event, a race, takes place over a testing course which is mainly on sand and includes several obstacles, including a water obstacle. In an intesting twist you are allowed to "borrow" a wife for the day if you don't have one of your own!
The action mainly takes place on the greens in the village and in the surrounding areas. Anyone is welcome to join in though some events need pre-booking - see the website for details.
