Clarenbridge Oyster Festival
The Oyster Festival at Clarinbridge has taken place every September since 1954, with guests from all over the world returning annully to celebrate the new Oyster season. The bivalves at the centre of the festivities are fresh from the famed local oyster beds and are rated by those who know about such things as the best anywhere in the world.
As well as eating oysters there is plenty for visitors to enjoy, with entertainment, music and dancing especially, as well as a very dressy gala ball, where those attending will this year be entertained by the Galway Tenors, the flamboyant Boogie Nights and the Maimin Cajun Band among others.
There will also be a traditional market day on the village green and a chance to get out into and learn about the oyster beds and the surrounding countryside in the company of naturalists Gordon D'arcy and Paul Gossling.
