Internationl Garden Festival
The International Garden Festival in 2007 was intended to run throughout the whole summer in the wonderful surroundings of Emo Court in Co Laois. However the terrible weather forced its early closure, which was a great pity. Whether or not it will be back in 2008 is doubtful, but we are leaving up details of the 2007 event as a matter of record.
Garden designers from Ireland, France, Gernany, Italy, Portugal, Australia and the USA will create 15 innovative contemporary gardens. The gardens will be fully maintained for the duration of the festival so that visitors can retuen and see how they have grown and changed thoughout summer and into the autumn.
A pathway leads visitors through each garden in turn, and they are certainly very diverse and different experrences. These are conceptualgardens, each one telling a story, showing the use of unusual materials and challenging our ideas of what a garden can be.
From the seemingly wild growing traditional plants of Gerard Mullen's 'Home Abhaile' garden, to the amazing magic carpet in the amazing "Flying Visit'' garden created by Petra Bittkau and Friedrich Bartfelder from Germany and the "Kanguroots" Australian garden where outlaw Ned Kelly has a central part, there is something to amaze everyone here.
Emo Court is always worth visiting, but a visit during the Garden Festival will be very special indeed.
