Mohill Arts & Storytelling Festival
Note: Details below refer to the previous event. Updated information for this year will be published here as soon as it becomes available.
There is little to beat the magic of a good story well told, and the storyteller was a revered character in Irish history and culture, telling his tales around firesides. Since 1995 many of Ireland’s best-known storytellers have come to weave their spell in Mohill in Co Leitrim each October, at a festival which has something for all ages.
The event is now recognised as one of the primary cultural events in the North-West and has attracted visitors to the area from all over Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK as well as places much further away.
Many of the storytelling events incorporate traditional music, and at children's events in particular audience participation is a central part of the unfolding of the takes.
Other events during the week include traditional music sessions and concerts, guided tours of the local area and the revived Mohill Horse Fair, where not only horses, ponies and donkeys change hands on the streets of the town, but also goats, rabbits and fowl of all breeds.
This is very much a festival for all the family and one where visitors will quickly get to know locals and be welcomed as old friends.
