Charles Macklin Autumn School
Charles Macklin was a noted player and dramatist, born in the Inisowen Peninsula in the 17th century. The festival held in his honour and the 2007 school held in his name focused on a major event of that period in Ireland - The Flight of the Earls.
Details for 2008 have yet to be announced, the information below is about 2007.
The keynote speaker was Professor Paul McKevitt, University of Ulster, who will give a lecture on The Burn-Derry O'Dohertys, who left in the the flight to Europe. A fascinating film by John Beattie following the journey of the Earls from Rathmullan and their final resting place in Rome will be shown.
Other events include an art exhibition, a creative writng workshop, a poetry competition, guided walks through the Inisowen countryside, an Antiquarian Book Exhibition and Sale and a special concert with Roisin Harrigan and her group playing music associated with the Flight of the Earls.
There will be music sessions each night in local pubs and a friendly welcome is gauranteed to all who attend.
