Kinsale Jazz Festival
Running as a fringe festival to its larger cousin the Cork Jazz Festival, this lively weekend will see Kinsale buzzing, with numerous live jazz and blues events packing in the crowds at pubs and hotels around the town.
The music at Kinsale is often more blues oriented than in Cork, with music that is highly accessible to an audience who may baulk at more 'serious' jazz. People come to Kinsale in October for a good time - and that's what they get.
The programme for 2008 has yet to be announced, but expect the return of some established favourites as well as new bands.
As a taste of what to expect, the 2007 event included appearances by Gentleman Tim and the Contenders whose Swing, West Coast and Chicago Blues influenced set was extremely popular and the high energy Slammers Maximum Jive Band from London.
There are 6-7 gigs running simultaneously every afternoon and evening, with nightclubs and late bars ensuring that the fun continues long into the night.
