Clarinbrige Arts Festival 2008
This is very much a community event, with just about everyone in the Co Galway town involved in the festival in some way. Visitors will enjoy the friendly and welcoming spirit in which the whole thing is run and have a real chance to meet with and get to know those involved.
With tradtional and classical music, poetry, theatre, photography, art, literature and even food events taking place there is a lot going on and much to see. There are several events centered around the schools, getting children fully involved and lots of family friendly occasions too.
The 2008 festival will celebrate the life and work of Anthony Raftery (I am Raftery the poet, full of hope and love), the last of the great celtic bards, who died in 1835 and is believed to be buried in the nearby cemetery. Taking place, appropriately, in local pub Raftery's Rest, a special event on Sunday will include readings, music and refreshments with poet Terry McDonagh leading events.
UK blues band The Real Deal will provide musical entertainment and there is also classical music, art exhibitions, workshops on cookery, felting, gardening and dance and a special children's programme.
