Warriors Festival
The central event of this festival is the gruelling Warrior's Run, which takes runners from the beachfront at Strandhill over a 10 mile route involving a seriously challenging climb of 1050ft to the top of Knocknarea mountain, much of it on slipply grass or gravel, and then back to the beach again.
It's not for the fainthearted, the organisers issue a medical warning, but attracts runners from all over Ireland, the UK and beyond who relish the real physical challange it presents. More than 400 doughty souls took part last year and a similar number is expected in 2008.
The run itself takes place on Sunday and for those not up to taking part it is a fantastic spectacle, with many runners donning costumes for the race and runners visible from the safety of ground level for most of their ascent. The best view is from the Strandhill Bar, which was where the run originated in 1971 after a bet between patrons as to the quickest way to the mountain top.
The town of Bundoran will be packed for the weekend and the local pubs lay on entertainment every night.
