New Ross Piano Festival
Now in its third year, New Ross will once again play host to talented pianists from Ireland and overseas on the last weekend in September 2008.
Cristina Ortiz, Brazil's most celebrated pianist, will perform at the opening concert among other events and will also give a masterclass on Saturday afternoon. There will be performances by four other very different pianists, each with their own distinct style and repetoire. Each evening's concert will see a number of pianists performing and there are lunchtime recitals also.
Some highlights include Irish pianist Finghin Collins , back for a second year, Nicolas Stav who will play a selection of pieces by Liszt and Chopin in a Saturday Morning concert and Marc Coppay who prings his particular affection for chamber music to New Ross. Peter Tuite, who has developed a reputation as one of Ireland’s most interesting and individual musical talents, will also be there.
The final concert of the weekend features Finghin Collins with Priya Mitchell, violin and Emma Johnson, clarinet performing the Stravinsky Suite from The Soldier's Tale for piano, violin, clarinet while Philip Martin plays Henri Herz Two Nocturnes and the Chopin Sonata No. 2 in B flat minor Op. 35
The main venue is the 800 year old St Mary's Church, which is a beautiful old building and certainly adds an extra something to the performances. Seating is limited and early booking is advised.
