Dromineer Literary FestivalNow in its fifth year, the Dromineer Literary Festival is becoming well known as a friendly and intimate event and the location, on the banks of Lough Derg, certainly contribute to its charm.

There are poetry and short story competitions for both adults and children, readings, meet the author sessions and reading and writing workshops.

The programme for 2008 has yet to be announced, but below is a flavour of last year's offerings to give you an idea of what to expect.

In 2007 an art exhibition by Judy Hamilton featured works which interpret poetry and  among the writers in attendance were Pat Boran, who led a poetry workshop as well as judging the poetry competition, and Vincent McDonnell, judge for the short story competition who also led a workshop.

A special cruise on Lough Derg passengers was accompanied by Professor Dáithí Ó hÓgáin, of the Folklore Department of UCD, who fascinated passangers with his stories during the voyage.

Julian Gough, winner of the UK National Short Story Prize, took part in a Meet the Authors session and the weekend was rounded off with North Tipperary’s Favourite Poems, chosen and read by local people.

Dromineer and the surrounding area is always a pleasure to visit, there is plenty to do and see in between festival events and local pubs will have live music each night.
