Cootehill in Co Cavan is one of Ireland's premier fishing destinations, with the rivers Dromore and Annalee, both tributaries of Lough Erne, running beside the town and 26 lakes also within a 10 mile radius it's not surprising.
Roach, rudd, skimmers, hybrids and bigger bream together with perch, pike and the occasional big trout are all caught here and the annual Fishing Festival brings enthusiast from Ireland, the UK and further afield for a week of competitive fishing.
With a prize fund of up to €12,00, the rivalry will be fierce in this 5 day 150 peg competition with the individual competition judged on overall weight and a 3 man team competition judged on points system.
But this is also a friendly and sociable event, with entertainment in a different pub every night giving old friends and new a chance to meet and talk fishing long into the night - and they do!
