Hard Rain Exhibition, DublinThis extraordinary exhibition, which marries the words of Bob Dylan's song "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" with photograhic images, mostly by photographer Mark Edwards, will be at the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin thoughout the summer months.

The Botanic Gardens are always worth visiting, but even more so now for anyone who has an interest in photography, in Bob Dylan or indeed in the future of our world.

The genisis of the exhibition goes back 40 years,  to 1969 when Mark Edwards became lost in the Sahara Desert. He was rescued by a Tuareg nomad, taken back to a camp and there heard Dylan's song for the first time, playing on a battered cassette player. Thus began a project that spanned decades and the globe - to take photographs to illustrate each line of the song.

It could easily have been trite and obvious, but it isn't. The images are sometimes devastating, sometimes lighthearted, sometimes it's clear what they are saying, sometimes they are more metaphorical. There is no particular photographic style to them, but they are always true to the words that accompany them. It's impossible to come away unaffected.

The exhibition is outdoors and the lush and green surroundings of the Botanic Gardens is a deliberate choice, contrasting starkly with the conditions in many of the images.

There is a website for the exhibition where a book of thephotgraphs is available.
