Listowel Writer's Week
Note: Details below refer to the previous event. Updated information for this year will be published here as soon as it becomes available.
Listowel is Ireland's longest established literary event, this is its 38th year and its popularity continues to be a testiment to the excellence of the programme of events and the quality of the 'craic'.
The 2008 festival will be opened by Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, and other writers in attendance include Anne Enright, John Banville, Julian Gough, Hugo Hamilton and Zoe Margolis.
An array of workshops on subjects as diverse as poetry, freelance journalism, writing for theatre and thriller writing booked out pretty much instantly that tickets became available, but there are plenty of events to interest those without admission to these sought after events.
There will be readings, interviews with writers, art exhibitions, theatre, literary tours, book launces, film and that is just the official events. Unofficial events take place everywhere in Listowel, where the town goes en fete for the weekend, with musical entertainment and impromtu sessions taking place in pretty much all pubs, and fringe exhibitions and events in abundance.
This festival is terrific fun and a must visit for anyone with any interest in matters literary.
