Pipeworks Festival
This triennial celebration of the Organ comprises 10 days of concerts, competitions, masterclasses and so much more, primarily taking place in the heart of Dublin city. It's a diverse programme of music-making with the organ at its centre, fully exploiting not only the wonderful range of instruments to be found in Dublin but the splendid cathedrals, churches and concert halls which house them.
In 2008 the festival move around th country to include recital trips to Dundalk and the beautiful cathedral city of Kilkenny with associated recitals in Galway and Wexford.
The programme includes performances by organ virtuosi from the UK, France, Germany, the USA and Sweden; concerts by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and the National Chamber Choir and a a silent film with live organ accompaniment.
sixteen young, aspiring organists from Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Norway, Russia, South Korea, the UK and the USA will compete to win the Dublin International Organ Competition
Performances by the Silesian University choir from Gliwice, Poland and the National Chamber Choir acknowledge the great choral traditions of Eastern Europe.
The three Dublin Cathdral Choirs will perform Evensong, which are wonderful occasions not to be missed even by those with little more than a passing interest in Organ or choral music - visiting on of Dublin's historic churches or Cathedrals dutring evensong is a real pleasure.
