This school is a joint effort by UCD, Boston College, The James Joyce Centre and the National Library of Ireland, as as such a distinguished list would suggest it is one aimed primarily at the serious Joycean scholor. The school gives Joycean enthusiasts a unique opportunity to savour and re-experience his writing in the context of the city which in large measure inspired and shaped it.

Events take place at Newman House on St Stephen's Green, where Joyce attended university, and at the nearby Boston College-Ireland. It's an academic programme in many ways, comprising lectures each morning and seminars and workshops which run throughout the week. But it is not aimed solely at those of academic leaning, there are events that will be enjoyed and appreaciated by anyone with an interest in Joyce's work.

Among this year's most interesting events are lectures on Joyce and the Spectral by Luke Gibbons and on Hollywood and Joyce by Mossis Beja. Maria McGarrity will speak on Joyce and Roger Casement.

There is a varied social programme of guided walks and tours of Joycean Dublin, visits to theatres and galleries and informal events in local pubs.
