Theatre in Ireland 2007 & 2008

Waiting for Godot - in IrelandPhoto by pierofixIreland has a rich theatrical heritage and there are theatres in many towns around the country, some stand-alone, others as part of a local Arts Centre. Dublin has a number of excellent theatres, notably the Gate and the Abbey which almost always have something worth seeing on.

In Belfast the Opera House stages mainly musical theatre, dance and concerts while the Lyric is a venue for dramatic productions.  Galway's Druid Theatre is home to a company that has had considerable international acclaim for many of its productions. The Everyman Theatre in Cork is another excellent venue.

Regional venues which are worth checking include the Watergate in Kilkenny, the Hawkswell in Sligo, the Millenium Theatre in Limerick and the Playhouse in Derry.
